Proposal of a Water Consumption Efficiency Indicator for the Hotel Sector

This work proposes a novel indicator (HCWI) for evaluating water consumption efficiency in hotels. The is built as relative index that compares the current with an estimated minimum achievable value. To ensure representativeness and applicability of index, evaluation this baseline considers each micro-component individually has been simplified, so it only requires fundamental characteristics hotel those are easy to identify quantify. A value HCWI equal one indicates best use can be theoretically achieved technology available. On contrary, larger values HWCI indicate high levels inefficiency by hotel. tested six different hotels located touristic region north Spain.
